My Story So Far

I started carpet and upholstery cleaning in 1990. I was introduced to the industry by friend who had his own cleaning company. It was really by chance as I was unemployed and my friend needed a technician. When I began cleaning I can honestly say I didn’t enjoy it. I found it hard to accept my status. Being called a ‘carpet cleaner’ felt degrading and somewhat un-motivating. It’s important to realize I was also chasing a dream at this time. I wanted to be a ‘superstar’ radio DJ. Two very different careers indeed.

But very soon I began to realize how much carpet and upholstery cleaning meant to my employers customers. I also realized how important it was to keep carpets and upholstery’s clean. I was pleasantly surprised and began to get a real sense of pride and passion in my work. Especially when customers would tell me how amazing there carpets or sofas looked after I cleaned them. The work became enjoyable and I made it my business to study the art of cleaning. I studied chemicals and stain removing processes. I learned about cleaning machines. I studied what materials carpets and sofas were made from and what were appropriate cleaning methods. I learned first-hand what good customer service was and how important it was to put customers first.

I stayed at my friends cleaning company until February 1994. During the 4 years I worked there I was promoted to supervisor and at my busiest moment would oversee a team of 12 carpet and upholstery technicians. I left to start Thats Amazing Cleaning Services. I ran this business from home and was the only member of staff. After 6 months of trading my dream also came true. I landed a job as a radio DJ at London radio station Kiss FM.

I decided to pursue my career as a radio DJ and paused trading under Thats Amazing Cleaning Services. In 2000 my time in the radio industry had come to an end. So I re-opened the doors at Thats Amazing Cleaning Services and blew the cobwebs off the cleaning equipment.

I found an office in Sutton, Surrey and expanded the arms of the business by adding extra services like End of Tenancy Cleaning, Curtain Cleaning and Mattress Cleaning. I started new advertising and marketing campaigns and built a website. It was effectively like starting again. But this time it was different. I was settled. I didn’t have a dream hanging around me. I could focus 100% on the business. I knew this was great opportunity to grow an amazing cleaning company.

I was surprised how many bad cleaning companies were out there. Customers would tell me nightmare stories. How they were charged more than the original quotation. Aggressive, pushy and poor workmen. Terrible after service and misleading advertising. My focus was to maintain our already excellent standard and reputation and make Thats Amazing Cleaning Services stand out from the rest.

Our recruitment process would only allow the very best employees into my company. I created new and intensive training programs for our members of staff. I invested in new machines and vehicles. I joined the National Carpet Cleaning Association (NCCA). I joined Checkatrade and I attended several specialist training courses in different areas of my business. Knowledge is essential in this industry and in my opinion you can never stop learning.

Today Thats Amazing Cleaning Services is recognised for our commitment to this wonderful industry and we have made a firm stamp in the market place. I have invested heavily to maintain our status as market leaders which enables me to provide a competitive, professional and quality cleaning service at all times.
